There are many people who suffer from the problem of grinding teeth or bruxism. However, this problem can be very mild or severe. If you have a very mild case of grinding teeth then you need no worry and you can choose to do nothing about it. Mild grinding of teeth will never cause any harm and doing nothing is the right decision. However, people who suffer severe case of bruxism must take steps to stop grinding teeth otherwise this may lead to serious complications. Some of the common complications are:
- Damage to teeth – Grinding of teeth can cause the enamel of your teeth to wear out and make it more exposed. It can also cause your teeth to crack and other damages that will need to be taken care of. This can be very painful and the treatment will be expensive too. Prevention is away better than cure. Therefore it is very essential to find out methods of how to stop grinding teeth and prevent it before the complications start.
- Complications with children – Grinding teeth can change the eating habits in children. They might not want to eat due to pain and not get the nutrients required.
- QTMJ disorders - Grinding of teeth can have greatly effect the TMJ and this can result in complications to the joints.
- Headache is a serious complication caused due to grinding of teeth at night. Excessive teeth grinding can also cause many other problems related to your health such as loss of sleep, depression, and anxiety.
It is therefore very essential to stop grinding teeth as soon as possible to avoid all these complications as well as your dentist’s bill!
