Tired of TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) pain? It is generally caused due to the persistent teeth clenching or teeth grinding. There can be various reasons that lead to Bruxism or teeth grinding, the main being stress. It is a fact that all of us have a tendency to hold stress somewhere in our body and the TMJ sufferers store it in their jaw.
A TMJ sufferer has learned over time that the safest and the easiest way to deal with stress and tension is during their sleep cycle. It is at this time when they clench and grind subconsciously in an attempt to process issues. Studies have revealed that around 25% to 35% of the population suffers from TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) pain. This pain is mostly caused by chronic teeth clenching or teeth grinding.
Teeth grinding can let the sufferer vent his anger during sleep but at the cost of damaging his/ her teeth. It is important to realize the side effects that teeth grinding can lead to and make all attempts to stop grinding teeth consciously as well as during sleep.
There are various types of mouth guards available in the market that can help you temporarily solve the problem of teeth grinding. However, if you want to cure this problem permanently then you must learn to tackle your stress and work upon decreasing your stress level before going to bed. You can consult your doctor and attend stress control programs to help you combat the problem of Bruxism or teeth grinding.
